After 4 days of waiting in a whiteout, last night we used a brief break in weather to move up the Death Valley to our cache. We traded the comfort of two tents, fresh food and avalanche-safe location for a small bivy tent, freeze-dried food and a campsite surrounded by overhanging seracs. We made good time and settled down for the night.
Tomorrow morning we will move cache and potentially our camp to the base of Cassin that is some 800 meters higher up the valley over a mini-Khumbu icefall. From there it’s a 2-3 day climb to the summit with nights spent in tiny bivies perched on the ridge. The team is in great spirit and very excited to finally start climbing!
